Mobile Release App
Problem: Sneakerhead users are extremely frustrated. They are not easily able to locate which Jimmy Jazz stores will have the new releases and which new releases will be also released on the website. Some releases are First Come First Serve while others require going to a particular store the day before of the release, receive a raffle ticket, then wait in line for hours the next day to see if they’d won a chance to purchase the shoe.
Solution: Having a “source of truth” with a Releases App that will house store raffles, online launch dates, and shop previously released hot new sellers. Having an app to distribute release raffles would save so much frustration from users/shoppers and have more organization to the raffle system.
Goals: Easily and automatically distribute raffles to interested users and organize the raffling system. Dynamically load product information into the app so the website and app are in-sync. Increase brand loyalty. Increase new release sales

User Research & Competitive Analysis
Much like the Release Calendar research, I evaluated many popular industry apps including, Nike’s, Foot Locker’s, Finish Line’s, and adidas’s app. Using this knowledge, I created an experience similar to these release apps and customized it to Jimmy Jazz’s branding and user-base.
I especially researched the raffling system in all industry apps and products in order to create an automated raffling system that would be easy for users to navigate and use.
Approach & Usability
Understanding and empathizing with the users’ frustrations, I have created an app flow that allows users to shop past releases, be notified of upcoming ones, and solve for the store raffling distribution problem (and even use AR to “try on” shoes to entice users more to make the purchase). The primary goal for the creation and need for the Jimmy Jazz app was to create an automated and randomized in-store raffling system. Through the usage of this app, users would no longer be lost as to which shoes will be raffled in which stores and “skip the line” for the raffles that are FCFS. Sneakerheads could enter the raffling system, choose the closest store location that is releasing that specific shoe, and have the chance to purchase the shoe in that selected store if they are randomly chosen.
Other functionalities included with the app also contribute to Jimmy Jazz’s brand presence and simply the users’ shopping journey.
- Having the DROPPED section allows users to easily shop new releases and also replicate the Release Calendar
- The (unreleased) loyalty program would sync with the app and users can gain points by the specific usage of the app. Using “gamification” and a loyalty program can persuade users to make more purchases and check Jimmy Jazz’s products more often and even unlock discounts
- Having an inbox for app users allows frequent communication, not only just exclusive to raffle update messages, but marketing and events as well
- The AR photo function would allow users to “try on shoes” through the Augmented Reality screen on their mobile devices and have a better understanding of how the shoe would look on them without them being at a physical store location. This can increase online conversions and increase cart average totals/revenue
